Obituary of Norma Jean Yates

Norma Jean Yates, 88-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO departed this life Friday, August 9, 2019 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. Norma was born October 19, 1930 in Dora, MO to the late Ephraim and Birda Mary Gunter Collins. 

Mrs. Yates enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, canning and flowers, but with all of her many interests, her love of her family and the Lord topped the list. 

December 8, 1956 Norma married Bill Yates in Hernando, MS. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Surviving are her children, Rick (Cathy) Yates of Doniphan and Billy (Nancy) Yates of White House, TN; her sister, Bertha Mae Wilson of Doniphan; and brothers, Dale Collins of Millstadt, IL and Ervel Collins of Dixon, TN. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Ashley Thompson, Amber DeWitt, and Grayson Yates; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Rett, and Maeve.

Mrs. Yates was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Viva Hamm, Arlee Ormsby, and Hazel Joplin and her brothers, Ted Collins and Hester Collins.

Visitation for Mrs. Yates will be in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2019 with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Graveside services will be in Amity Cemetery Monday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m.
