Obituary of Irven Warren Schlief
Irven Warren Schlief, 94-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO departed this life Saturday, August 3, 2019 at his residence. Irven was born June 24, 1925 in the Bangor Township of Minnesota to the late Henry Gustave and Emma Bertha Vergin Schlief.
Mr. Schlief was the Industrial Arts teacher for the Doniphan R-I School district, from which he retired. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II and was a charter member of the Doniphan VFW Post #3485. Irven was also a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Doniphan and helped with the construction of that church, where he was very active and taught Sunday School and Bible classes for several years. Mr. Schlief was also a leader for the Boy Scouts and received their highest honors, the Silver Beaver and the Lamb awards.
Irven was dedicated to his family and enjoyed hunting, camping, playing cards and telling stories. He loved to talk!
On June 20, 1948, Mr. Schlief married Eva Lea Ruegger in Waldenburg, AR. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2012.
Surviving are his children, Ron (Laurel) Schlief of Perryville, MO, Lowell (Norita) Schlief of Doniphan, Carol (Phil) Davis of Doniphan, Linda (Vol) Holland of Edgar Springs, MO, Dan (Cheryl) Schlief of Marble Hill, and Janet (Kevin) Payne of Doniphan. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Schlief was preceded in death by three sisters, Hattie Landers, Irene Schlief, and Iris Drawley; and three brothers, Elder Schlief, Clifford Schlief, and Wilford Schlief.
Visitation for Irven will be Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jon Bischof officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery with full military honors.
