Obituary of Carl Ray Brooks

Carl Ray Brooks, 92, life-long resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, in Ripley County.

Mr. Brooks, son of Wesley and Henrietta (McDowell) Brooks, was born January 15, 1927, in Ripley County, Missouri. He had been a supervisor at Vitronic Manufacturing in Doniphan.  Mr. Brooks was a member of the Masonic Lodge of both Doniphan and Grandin, Missouri, was a Life Member of the VFW Post 3485, a member of the Macedonia Church and an avid hunter. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. 

On April 15, 1950, he was married to Betty Joplin in Pocahontas, Arkansas, and she survives.

Also surviving are 3 children:  Carl Dean “Sonny” Brooks (and Vickie), Sandra Decker (and Ronnie) and Cheryl Schrimsher (and Jr.), all of Doniphan; 1 sister, Vergie Ward of St. Louis; 6 grandchildren:  Heather French (and Scott), Stephanie Lindsey (and Jeff), Dana Hollon (and Jerry), Amanda Brooks, Bud Decker (and Jami) and Chera Dean (and Ricky);  9 great-grandchildren:  Emma, Nathan, Hannah, Gavan, Derek, Jacob, Taylor, Carly and Lane; and 5 great-great-grandchildren: Jayden, Braelynn, Peyton, Jacelynn, Laikynn and Malia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Ina May, Dorothy and Bonnie; and 8 brothers, Louin, Othel, Alfred, Wilbert “Doc”, Marvin, Ivis, Elvis and Orvil.

Visitation will take place Friday evening, April 5, 2019, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan with a Masonic Service being  held at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday morning, April 6, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel and burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.
