Obituary of Dewayne Sloate

Dewayne Sloate, age 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, January 9, 2019 at his home in Morgantown.

He was born May 31, 1951 in DeWitt, Arkansas to his parents, the late Clarence and Clara Bell (Watson) Sloate.  Dewayne was a 1970 graduate of DeWitt High School and went on to marry Sharon L. (Main) Sloate on February 5, 1972 in Naylor, Missouri.

He retired in 2013 as a truck driver for Gregory Logistics of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Dewayne was a lifelong member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, being baptized on August 6, 1981. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting brethren and family. Dewayne was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Arkansas Razorbacks football and college basketball.

Dewayne is survived by his wife, Sharon L Sloate of Morgantown; children, John (Moira) Sloate of Tahlequah, OK and Theresa (Eric) Brickey of Purcell, OK; grandchildren, Tristian (Martha) Sloate and Zachary Sloate both of Tahlequah, OK; a special granddaughter, Brittney Flora and her children, Brylin and Gabriel all of Morgantown, and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Carnell Sloate, Joyce Bohall, Wanda Heidlebaugh, Louise Poor, Calvin, Glen, Loyal and Ted Sloate.

Bros. Rodger Bunch and Jeff Bryant will conduct a funeral service on Monday at 11 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, Missouri followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Stephens Cemetery in Ripley Co.
