Obituary of Joan Allen

Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joan (JoAnn) Allen, 83, Pocahontas, AR; formerly of Doniphan, MO, joined her beloved Junior on Thursday September 13, 2018 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Joan was born August 17, 1935 in Grandin, MO to Joe and Helen Nance Wartenbe.  She lived most of her life in Doniphan, MO where she attended the Assembly of God Church.  Joan worked approximately 30 years at Vitronic.  After moving to Pocahontas in 1989, she was employed at Pocahontas Healthcare and Rehab for 15 years.  She attended the Sugar Tree Community Church in Poynor, MO.

Joan was a special part of hundreds of lives!  Her sweet smile and disposition made everyone feel welcome.  She had a genuine desire to make people happy and continually did what she could to make that possible!

On December 8, 1951, Joan married the love of her life Leon Allen, Jr.  He preceded her in death November 27, 2008.  Junior and Joan had three children; Gloria Samms of Wichita, KS, the late Steve Allen, and Rick (Pam) Allen of Doniphan, MO.  They were blessed with 8 grandchildren; Laurinda (Shane) Metz of Maple Valley WA, Tara(Byron) Johnson of Wichita KS, Scott (Candace) Allen of Bloomfield, MO, Chasity (David) Lester of Cape Girardeau, MO, Richard (Cherry) Allen of Doniphan,MO,  Jennifer Perkins of Pocahontas, AR, Gary (Tabatha) Allen of Pocahontas, AR and Michael (Lindsey) Allen of Jonesboro, AR.

Joan leaves 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, parents and son, Steve, Joan was preceded in death by one great grandson, Austin Allen, her siblings Geneva Decker, Gene, Donny, Danny and Debbie Wartenbe, and two sons-in-law, Earl Scobee and Richard Samms.

We called her Mom, Grandma, Nana Jo, Grandma J, Aunt Joan and friend.  She was the foundation of our family.  She never missed a birthday and kept up with all of her friends and family.  Her fervent, continued prayers will be missed.  She will live on in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be Monday, September 17 at noon in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services to follow at 2:00 pm. Bro. Carl Harp will officiate. Burial will be in the Doniphan Oak Ridge Cemetery.
