Obituary of Susie Trellis Young

Susie Trellis Young, 98, departed this life Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Mrs. Young, daughter of William E. and Clarisa Willmerth (Brooks) McDowell, was born February 7, 1920, in Ripley County, Missouri.  She had worked as a secretary at Lone Star School for over 20 years but the majority of her life she had been a homemaker.  Mrs. Young enjoyed many special hobbies but she especially liked quilting, crocheting and gardening.  She also worked in several area elections, had served on the Wilson Cemetery Board and was a member of the Flower Club and the Doniphan Church of Christ.

On January 31, 1939, she was married to John D. Young in Doniphan and he preceded her in death on March 21,1980.

Mrs. Young was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Young, Jr., 1 sister, Eunice Thompson; and 2 brothers, Ganum McDowell and Dewey McDowell.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Ruby Trellis Hodo (Mike) of Doniphan; 1 son, Dewey L. Young (Marilyn) of McAllen, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening, June 9, 2018, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.  The funeral service will take place Sunday afternoon, June 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Steve Sanders officiating.  Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
