Obituary of Leora Smith

Leora "Happy" Smith, 90, life-long resident of Ripley County, Missouri, died Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Westwood Hills Healthcare in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mrs. Smith, daughter of Willis (Wid) and Pearl (Wilkerson) Davis, was born July 31, 1921, in Ripley County, Missouri. She was retired from Vitronic and had also worked at Cumbee's Fabrics. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed fishing. She was married to Hanford D. Smith on July 4, 1940, in Ripley County. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2006. Surviving are two daughters; Margaret (and Richard) Rushin of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Theresa Vancil of Doniphan, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith of Park Hills, Missouri; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Dennis Smith, five sisters, Martha Swindle, Cora Ellen Boze, Ola Robinett, Nola Burns and Roberta Scott, and one brother, Mervin Wilkerson. Visitation for Mrs. Smith will be Monday evening, September 26, 2011, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will take place Tuesday afternoon, September 27, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Hubert Payne officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
