Obituary of Clement Burl Milum
Mr. C.B. Milum, 88, of St. Peter's, Missouri, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at The Villages of St. Peter's Nursing Home where he had been a resident for two and a half years after breaking a hip. He had lived with his daughter, Roberta, since December 2007 after showing signs of Alzheimer's.
Mr. Milum was the son of Robert Clifford Milum and Verna Opal (Kennon) Milum. He was born February 23, 1929 in Ripley County, Missouri. He was an entrepreneur in many endeavors. He worked a few years at General Motors in his early twenties in St. Louis. He then went back to Doniphan, Missouri and built two charcoal kilns, where he would cut wood, smoke it in the kilns and then take his charcoal to Saint Louis to sell. By 1958 he had started building a home for his wife, Thelma Jean and his first three children in what would be Whispering Hills Subdivision, today, in O'Fallon, Missouri. He built multiple homes on large lots to develop the subdivision off Mexico Road which was a gravel road at the time. He made life long friends that bought some of his homes.
In the early 1960's he bought property off of the O'Fallon exit to the service road on the west side of Highway K, where he built a gas station and used car lot that he leased out a lot and ran himself some. He sold what was left after the city took the front third of his property to widen Highway K. He owned and ran a junk yard, developed property in Elesberry and then went to Florida and developed a trailer park resort for the "snow birds". He spent twenty years in Florida making many more life long friends.
He was loved by many for his happy, teasing nature, infectious smile and his bright red hair which deemed him his nickname "Red". He married, Thelma Jean Hamilton, on April 18th, 1953 in Doniphan, Missouri. She proceeded him death when she passed March 28, 1981. He is also proceeded by his eldest daughter, Linda Joye Milum, and his son, Stephen Bartley Milum. He is survived by three daughters, Roberta Jean (Milum) Guiffrida of Saint Charles, Missouri, Joyce Ann (Joe) Reed of Stillwell, Kansas and Mary Eva (Kevin) Tyler of O'Fallon, Missouri and one son, Thomas David (Sarah) Milum of Saint Charles, Missouri. He his survived by his many grandchildren, Peter Dominic Clement Guiffrida, Thelma Jean Lucille Guiffrida and Robert Burl Joseph Guiffrida, Joseph Michael (Michele) Reed Jr., Jean Marie (Matthew) Kelley, Kassie Jo (Siegler) David, Mitchell Burl (Natelle) Milum, Linda Michele Tyler and Lauren Rae Tyler. His great grand children, Alexander Thomas Reed, Theodore Lucas Reed, Cameron Lee Kelley, Kian Matthew Kelley, Alixsie Cora David and Astra Dei.
He is survived by his sister, Edith (Milum) Rush of Doniphan.
He was proceeded in death by his sister, Sally Irene Williamson Calvert and his brother, Glen Thomas Milum.
There will be a graveside service held Friday, January 5th, 2018 at 1pm, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Doniphan, Missouri. Sometimes known as the Doniphan Cemetery.
