Obituary of Dr. Larry W. Jackson
Dr. Larry Wayne Jackson, 67, of Oakland, Arkansas, died Saturday, August 12, 2017, at his residence.
Dr. Jackson, son of Marvin Woodrow and Virginia Evelyn (Wallace) Jackson, was born June 6, 1950, in Ripley County (Barkadaro), Missouri. He had been a dentist in private practice in Ripley County for over a period of 30 years. Dr. Jackson was a member of the State of Missouri Dental Board, serving as chairman and was on the policy review committee from June, 1997 to November, 2005. He was a Missouri Dental Board representative to the Well-Being committee from July, 2003 to November, 2005 and served as President of the Missouri Dental Board from July, 1999-2000 and again July, 2001 to 2002. Further, he was a member of the American Association of Dental Examiners from July, 1997 to July, 2004.
Dr. Jackson was also a member of the Ripley County Chamber of Commerce from 1994-1999. He was a co-chairman of the U. S. Highway 67 Corridor Coalition and a member of Interstate 30 Arkansas-Missouri Highway Corridor Coalition from July, 1997 to July, 1999. Additionally he was an examiner for the Central Regional Dental Testing Service from July, 1997 to July, 1999, Ripley County Chairman of the Cotton Bowl Girl Scouts Fund Drive in 1985 and was a member of the Lions Club from September, 1981 to 1991, serving as President in 1984. Dr. Jackson was a board member of the Ripley County Industrial Development Authority from July, 1991 to July, 1997 and served two years as president from June, 1993 to June, 1995.
Dr. Jackson was a 1968 graduate of Doniphan High School. He obtained a bachelor of science degree, pre-dentistry, from Arkansas State University in 1972. He entered the University of Missouri School of Dentistry in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1972 and completed his degree as doctor of Dental Surgery in May, 1976. Dr. Jackson was a member of the American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association, Southeast Missouri Dental Society, Three Rivers Dental Study Club, Academy General Dentistry (past member), International College of Dentists, fellow, and American College of Dentists, fellow.
From July, 1976 to August, 1978, Dr. Jackson was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Dental Corps and was stationed at the Naval Regional Dental Center in Norfolk, Virginia. From July, 1977 to August, 1978, he was Branch Head, Core Center, in Norfolk, Virginia. From 1978 to 1980, Dr. Jackson was a Lieutenant, United States Navy Dental Corps, Naval Regional Dental Center in Naples, Italy, and the Branch Dental Center in Sigonella, Sicily, Italy. From 1980 to August 1981, he was Lieutenant Commander of the United States Navy Dental Corps, Naval Regional Dental Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and Branch Dental Center in Patuxent River, Maryland. Dr. Jackson received his honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy in August, 1981.
He was a life member of the American Legion and was a member of the Alley-White American Legion Post 52 from December, 2009 until his untimely death. He was a trustee of the organization in July, 2010.
On December 24, 1984, he married Carmen Carnahan in the Doniphan United Methodist Church and she survives.
Also surviving are 1 sister, 1 brother, 4 nephews and 3 nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother.
Larry’s wishes were to have no service.
