Obituary of Allen Coats

Allen Coats, 77, of Gatewood, Missouri, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Shady Oaks Healthcare in Thayer, Missouri.

Mr. Coats, son of Herbert Allen and Ethel (Downing) Coats, was born February 23, 1940, in Clear Lake, Arkansas.  He had been a crane operator specializing in bridge construction.  Mr. Coats was instrumental in the creation of the Pine/Bardley Fire House, serving as fire chief and other positions as needed.  He also had a fox pen and many area fox hunters were entertained by the dog runs and “hound bragging rights” on his property.  Mr. Coats was a member of the Tucker Methodist Church.

On March 13, 1959, he married Doris Fifield in Rock Island, Illinois, and she survives.

Also surviving are 2 grandchildren:  Crystal Kendrick and Dustin Allen Coats, both of Davenport, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Victor Allen Coats.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017, in the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Jerry Reynolds officiating.  Burial will be in the Bardley Oak Ridge Cemetery.
