Obituary of Timothy D. Helms
Timothy D. Helms, 57, passed from this life into Heaven on June 2, 2017. He received his ultimate healing after battling numerous health issues for many years.
Tim was born on October 20, 1959 in Walnut Ridge, AR to Doug & Betty Helms of Doniphan, MO. In his childhood, he was known for being all boy; hunting, fishing, catching all kinds of animals, pranks, and the occasional fight. During his high school years, he excelled in sports and was a star basketball player for the Doniphan Dons. He graduated from Doniphan High School in 1978.
On June 6, 1981 he married Lisa (Gilmore) Helms of Doniphan, MO. They were blessed with two girls, Julie and Jennifer.
Tim was employed with the City of Doniphan until 1987 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which left him disabled and no longer able to work.
Tim was a member of the First Baptist Church in Doniphan, and if you met him, you had no doubt he loved the Lord. He made it a priority to raise his family with Christian values. Despite the trials he faced in his life, he always had a smile on his face and pointed people towards Jesus.
Another passion of Tim’s was fishing on the beautiful Current River. He always had a fishing story to tell and eagerly taught his grandkids how to cast a reel as soon as they were able. Some other things he enjoyed were visiting the Poplar Bluff sale barn on Friday mornings, his Papillon dog Lily, woodworking, and watching his favorite game shows.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughters Julie (Matthew) O’Neal of Doniphan , MO and Jennifer (Chris) Bolin of Dexter, MO; four grandchildren, Tyler and Zach O’Neal and Elizabeth and Emily Bolin; parents, Doug & Betty Helms; mother in-law, Beverly Gilmore; sisters, Mary (Glen E.) Bice, Debbie (Richard) Owens, and Diane Stadler; brothers in-law Curtis (Manu) Gilmore and Jake (Niki) Gilmore; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul Helms and father in-law Curtis Gilmore.
