Obituary of John Phillip Wright
John Philip Wright, 67, of Doniphan, Missouri, departed this life Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Mr. Wright, son of John and Lorraine (Selover) Wright, was born May 21, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri. He retired as a river boat captain after 32 years of employment. Mr. Wright was a volunteer fireman, a reserve deputy, a member of the Naylor Masonic Lodge and a prior board member of Cloud 9 Ranch.
John was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps and proudly served his country in Vietnam. While in service, he was honored as a recipient of the prestigious Purple Heart and was named a decorated sharp shooter. Mr. Wright had been the commander of Doniphan V. F. W. Post #3485 from 2015 until his death. He had attended the West Point Pentecostal Church.
On December 27, 1971, he was married to Rosemary Colburn at Oxly, Missouri, and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2010.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and his son, Joey Dukeman, who died in June, 1997.
Surviving are 5 children: Carolyn (Brian) Epperson of Doniphan, Rosemary Smith (Roy Vaughn) of Junction City, Kansas, Tom (Susan) Dukeman of Falling Waters, West Virginia, Fred (Tina) Dukeman of Bloomsdale, Missouri, and Bob Dukeman of St. Genevieve, Missouri; 1 sister, Diane Sessen of Archbold, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin Monday morning, May 8, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chuck Carr officiating. A Masonic Service will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery
