Obituary of Nicholas Joseph Ederer

Nicholas Joseph Ederer, 80, went to his eternal home on Sunday, March 5th, 2017, to join his savior, Jesus Christ. Nicholas, or Nick, as friends and family knew him was born on February 2nd, 1937 in Doniphan, Missouri. He was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo C. Ederer and Sarah “Sally” Margaret (Straatman) Ederer and a sister, Sarah Jane Ederer.
On December 1st, 1962 he married Evelyn (Stilwell) Ederer in St. Louis, Missouri. She survives and to this union three children were born. Lisa (Ederer) and Larry Moore, Nixa, MO, Joseph Leo and Randi Ederer, Doniphan, MO and Natalie (Ederer) and Stephen Smith, Doniphan, MO. Eight grandchildren: Layton Moore, Highlands Ranch, CO; Lachlan Moore, Kansas City, MO; Justin Ederer, Doniphan, MO; Haley Gilmore, Doniphan, MO, Emily Ederer, Doniphan, MO; Stephanie (Shayne) Talburt, Doniphan, MO; Hunter Smith, Jonesboro, AR; Colton Smith, Jonesboro, AR. Two great grandchildren: Braidy and Landry Talburt, Doniphan, MO. Nick is also survived by a sister, Carole (Ederer) Chilton, Alpharetta, GA and a brother, Connell Ederer, Pleasant Hill, MO.
Nick served his country in the Armed Services from 1957-1959. He was known for his great kindness and business saavy. He worked for many years in the insurance and real estate business forming the Nick Ederer Agency in February, 1978. Mr. Ederer was a charter member of the Ripley County State Bank now known as Peoples Community Bank and was an advisor until he retired in 2016 after 40 years of service. He was involved in many community programs including: Doniphan School Board, Lions Club, Industrial Development Board, Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Association of Independent Insurance Agents and the Food Pantry.
Nick found tremendous pleasure playing golf and pool. He owned what is now Sycamore Hills Golf Course with his son, Joe. He had many special golf and pool buddies that he enjoyed through the years. He and his wife, Evelyn enjoyed the Texas Rio Grande valley during the winter months for several years where he developed additional great friendships through his love of golf and pool.
Words cannot describe the pain his absence leaves behind.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, March 9, 2017, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will take place Friday morning, March 10, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Father William Hodgson and Steve Sanders officiating. Entombment will be in the Doniphan Mausoleum.
