Dear Ruth,
I recently learned of Ray's passing from Ron Caruso [Rutgers schoolmate ] . Please forgive the lateness of this note
. You may not remember me ,but I will always remember the kindness you and Ray showed to my husband Jerry and myself, when we suddenly showed up at your home in Izmir, Turkey....and stayed on much longer than expected ! Jerry knew Ray from Rutgers U......part of an amazing circle of people. Jerry passed away in 2012.......
Thanks to the internet, a number of those friends from Rutgers days ["Gamma Sigma"] have renewed contact.........and, I have been able to follow Ray's impressive career and significant contributions.
I particularly noted his involvement and commitment to the Doniphan
River Heritage Museum ........a living memory and heritage for his family ,and the people of Missouri.
Life takes us all on our different paths and we may lose contact ,but those good memories of an old friendship stay with us. Grateful to Ray and you for that ..........May the memories of the time you shared with Ray console and sustain you in your loss. Rhoda Jacobs ..Brooklyn NY. jerryrhoda@hotmail.com

Dear Ruth, Don and Families,
I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Ray. He was a "true" Burson. His parents and mine were good friends to the point we bought property in Hendersonville, around the corner from them back in the mid 60's just after leaving Aruba. The Aruba days will always be treasured as Don was a Lago High classmate. The Burson boyz, Atlas, Decoy and Fearless will always be remembered!

Ruth -- I just learned of Ray's passing and was very sorry indeed. Ray and I were close friends as children but, did lose contact in the early 50s when I went away for my last two years of High School. In fact, I did not know he was at Rutgers at the same time I was at Lehigh and they are only 200 or so miles apart. I enjoyed ever so much when we met up again in Bellingham in the late 90s and had a chance to compare our Years of Foreign "Travel" in our respective jobs. Since then as you probably know we have communicated on many occasions about the trials and tribulations of the convoluted World we live in.
I am sure you will miss him terribly as will the rest of us. He was a great Friend, Classmate and just a Great Guy to know. I remember our "stumbling" together at the Charlotte Airport on our way to a Reunion in Aruba. I believe we all had supper together in Aruba as well. Lots of good times but, now Father Time is catching up with all of us. Be assured that Ray has a lot of Friends and all of us stand ready to help you in anything you may need. Just let us know. In the meantime my sincerest condolences and best wishes.

Dear Ruth, It was such a pleasure to see you with Ray so many times when we were back home in Aruba together. I will miss that joy of looking up to see that Ray is there, in the same place with me, when next I am back home.
The Burson's lived across the street and two bungalows away, from my birth, in 1944, until Ray left for college. I think that would have been in 1955. As a "little kid" on the block, I looked up to Ray as one of the "big kids" who already knew everything, everything; Ray knew everything! And, Ray owned the Burson's Caves. At least, in my young mind, those were his caves! I only went down there when he let me tag along, not very often, but, a magical place, to my young mind!
Of all the things Ray accomplished in his life, and the list is very long, one of the most important was the example of gentle kindness he set for we who were younger and looking up to him as we all grew on our tiny Dutch Caribbean island in the Trade Winds. Ray wrote of our history and particularly of the WW2 events. I was born as the war was dragging on, and on. But, Ray lived it. He lived the blackouts and the air raid drills and knew the Dutch troops and the American troops who were guarding the largest refinery in the world, vital to the survival of the Allies. He knew their 7mm guns mounted on the cliffs above the Colony. His memories of those war years as a youngster, were carefully memorialized in written words for us to treasure. Only Lago Colony kids can understand the enchanted, magical childhood we were gifted. Ray understood how very special that gift had been and took the time to document it for us all.
Thank you, Ray Burson, for being one of the "big kids" and doing it so very well.
