Dossie Payne, 83, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at the Walnut Ridge Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Mr. Payne, son of Dan H. and Jessie (Tutterow) Payne, was born April 15, 1928, in Doniphan. He was a timber worker in local sawmills. Mr. Payne had spent most of his life in Ripley County, Missouri, and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. On November 30, 1946, he was married to Claudia Faulkner in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on November 23, 2007. Surviving are one son, Melvin Payne and wife, Melodye, of Jackson, Tennessee; two daughters, Janice Colburn and husband C.H., and Yvonne Hill and husband Bob, both of Doniphan; three sisters, Lois Moore of Lonoke, Arkansas, Annabel Tillman of Doniphan and Audrey Adams of Fairdealing, Missouri; two brothers, Elmer Payne of Doniphan and David Rodger Payne of Fairdealing; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan H. and Jessie Payne, his wife, Claudia Payne, two sons, Dennis Payne and Larry Payne, one daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Mike Kohlmeyer, and two sisters, Melva Vandergriff and Eva Jean Crook. Visitation for Mr. Payne will take place Friday evening, August 19, 2011, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, August 20, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Russell Chitwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
