Geneva Rackley Lewis, formerly of Doniphan, died Monday, August 15 at West Vue Nursing Home in West Plains. Mrs. Lewis was born December 28, 1915 in Alton, MO. She is survived by three sons, James A. Lewis, Sr. (Vicki) and Larry L Lewis (Judy) of Fredericksburg, Va., Jerral W. Lewis of West Plains, and a daughter-in-law, June Lewis of West Plains. Her oldest son, J. Paul (Cotton) Lewis of West Plains preceded her in death. She is also survived by two sisters, Mildred R. Carter of St. Peters and Pauline R. Bigler of Doniphan. Preceding her in death were her six brothers and sisters, Edna R. Johnson, Ethel R. Lewis, Carl, Norbin, James and John D. Rackley. Mrs. Lewis has 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mrs. Lewis' husband, Paul J. Lewis, died of injuries sustained in an auto accident when their children were very young. To support the family, she worked at the Wright Leather Factory for many years. After her four sons were grown, she moved to Fredericksburg, Va., to Jacksonville, Il., and then later to Meridian, Mississippi. Living close to family was always very important to her. Her final move to West Plains from Doniphan was to enable her to be close to Cotton and June Lewis. Until two years ago, Mrs. Lewis lived independently in the Walnut Grove Apartments. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Plains. The funeral will be held at 10 AM, Monday August 22, at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Bardley, next to her husband. The Reverend Perry Lewis, brother in law of the deceased, will officiate. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the West Plains First Baptist Church Food Bank or the charity of your choice.
