Donald William Phillips, 84, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Saturday August 13, 2011, at Ripley county Memorial Hospital in Doniphan. Mr. Phillips was born on December 25, 1926, in Burr, Missouri, to the late William and Nora (King) Phillips. He was a truck driver and plumber. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Doniphan VFW Post #3485 and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed coon hunting, floating and fishing on the Current River. On November 23, 1985, he married Opal (Gilliam) Cates in Doniphan. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Donald K. Phillips, Mike Cates, Bob Cates and Randy Cates and wife, LaDonna, all of Doniphan; four daughters, Vicki Nelson and husband, Rick, of Maynard, Arkansas, Mendy Reece and husband, Ken, of Doniphan, Janis Steele and husband, Ray, of Scottsville, Kentucky, and Crystal Craft and husband, James, of Newport Ritchey, Florida; one sister, Viva Davis of Van Buren, Missouri; two brothers, J.D. Phillips and wife, Leveta, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jack Phillips of St. Louis, Missouri; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin Monday August 15, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at the Edwards Funeral Home at 2 p.m. and burial will follow at Johnston Chapel Cemetery, with full Military Honors.
