Marguerite Tennessee (Martin) O’Neill Ator, 99, a lifelong resident of Ripley County, Missouri, died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Southeast Health Center of Ripley County.
Marguerite was born on November 16, 1916 in Gatewood, Missouri. She was a member of the Doniphan Church of Christ. Marguerite began her teaching career in numerous one room school houses in Ripley County. She then completed her Master’s degree and was Principal for a time at Lone Star School. Eventually, she came to Doniphan High School and taught Psychology, Sociology, and World Geography until her retirement
On October 3, 1936 she married Worley O’Neill and they were married 45 years until he predeceased her on December 6, 1981. On July 17, 1986, she married Orley Ator and they were married 3 years until he passed away.
She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Dorothy Humphries, Virginia Anderson, Jewell McManus and Lelia Martin; two brothers, Ed and Burford Martin; and parents, Horace C and Tennessee (Crim) Martin.
She is survived by one nephew, Homer Smith of Doniphan, and two nieces, Margie Sullivan of Chino Hills, California and Matilda Soyland of Waterford, California.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Steve Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
