Evelyn Doris Gunter, 84, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Friday, April 1, 2016, at Oak Dale Nursing Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mrs. Gunter, daughter of Rubert and Elsie (Batten) Howell, was born August 5, 1931, in Stoddard County, Missouri. She had been a housewife and was a member of the First Christian Church of Bernie. Mrs. Gunter, along with her husband, was an owner of Gunter Garage from 1951-1980. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends. On May 14, 1949, she was married to Robert (Bob) Gunter in Grandin, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on August 28, 2009. Surviving are 1 son, Jerry (and Vicki) Gunter of Ellsinore, Missouri and 1 daughter, Carolyn (and Mike) Cates of Ditmer, Missouri; 1 brother, Gary Howell of Potosi, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Michael Cates of Buffalo, New York, Brad Cates of Oakville, Missouri, and Clinton Gunter of Ellsinore; and 9 great-grandchildren, Kirston, Haley, Robyn, Cody, Mikey, Elizabeth, Aurora, Noah, Lilianna and Emelia. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Garner and Robert Howell; and 1 granddaughter, Amanda Cates. Visitation will be Sunday evening, April 3, 2016, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow Monday afternoon, April 4, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home chapel and burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
