Obituary of Wilma Jean LeGrand
Please share a memory of Wilma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wilma Jean LeGrand, age 80, passed to her home in glory peacefully on Wednesday, January 13th at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Missouri. Her husband of 61 years and her 4 daughters were by her side holding her hand as she was ushered into Heaven. Wilma was born on March 6, 1935 in Laforge, Missouri, to Richard and Weltha Coleman.
She was a true follower of Jesus Christ and exemplified the Lord in every way. She loved to study her Bible and could debate with even the greatest of theologians. She cared for her family with silent strength, unconditional love and generosity. She loved to sing and had a beautiful tenor voice. She also loved to play the piano and guitar, and taught each of her daughters the love of music.
On October 16, 1953, she was married to the love of her life, George Cliffton LeGrand. Her most prized possessions were her four loving and devoted daughters. It didn’t take long to know how she felt about her children once you knew her.
She was a member of the West Point United Pentecostal Church in Doniphan, Missouri where she was happy to tell you she had attended for 50 years. During her 50 years at West Point, Wilma sang in many trios and duets, as well as being a faithful member of the sanctuary choir.
Wilma has had many of her dear loved ones precede her to glory. Her mother and father, Richard and Weltha Coleman. Siblings - Richard Coleman, Joyce Nevins, Barbara Thompson, Michael Coleman, Paul Coleman, Jean Urich, Jarold Coleman and Phyllis Coleman. One grandson, baby Caleb Aaron Parmley and her lifelong friend, Dorothy Ponder.
Those she will be waiting for are her beloved cowboy, George C. LeGrand of the home, one sister- Shirley Smith, St Louis, Missouri and one brother- Harold Coleman of Grandin, Missouri. Four daughters, Cindy (Steve) Dunlap, Foristell, Missouri; Pam (Gary) Carter, Rogers, Arkansas; Dorinda (Butch) Parmley, Rogers, Arkansas; and Tammy Davidson, Doniphan, Missouri. Seven precious grandchildren whom she prayed for daily - Summer McChristian, Kyle Young, Jared Carter, Kimberlee Harrison, Derek Davidson and Caleb and Candace Parmley. As well as three great grandchildren - Grayson McChristian, Hannah Young and Waylon Davidson and one little bundle of joy on his way, Wyatt Davidson.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, January 15, 2016, at the West Point Pentecostal Church from 5 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place Saturday afternoon, January 16, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Pastors’ Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Towles Cemetery.
