Vella Carter, 87, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at Southeast Health of Ripley County in Doniphan.
Mrs. Carter, daughter of Walter Clarence and Lou (Cole) Hudson, was born March 10, 1928, in Warm Springs, Arkansas. She had been a Licensed Practical Nurse and enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.
She was married to Calvin Carter on April 24,, 1999, in Doniphan and he survives.
Also surviving are 3 children; Dennis (Mary) Haywood of Johnstown, Colorado, and Douglas Haywood and Pamela Ybarra, both of Phoenix, Arizona; 6 siblings; Lucille Ripley of Doniphan, W. J. Hudson, Nelda Boyer and Melba Cook, all of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Melvin Hudson of Batesville, Arkansas; and 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Haywood.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening, January 17, 2016, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Monday afternoon, January 18, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Doniphan Church of God with Brother Larry Bashaw officiating. Burial will follow in the New Home Cemetery.
