Obituary of Ted Joe Tucker

Please share a memory of Ted to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ted Joe Tucker passed away peacefully beside members of his loving family in The Veteran’s Home in Mount Vernon, Missouri, on December 10, 2015. Born on July 27, 1932, Ted was the youngest son of Setta Jane and Auzie Tucker of Doniphan, Missouri. Blessed with an easy-going manner and a wry sense of humor, Ted was a peaceful soul. He led a quiet and dignified life devoid of any animosity or personal conflict. However, behind Ted’s extremely modest and humble demeanor lay a sharp intellect. He earned a degree in Metallurgical engineering from the University of Missouri’s School of Mines at Rolla in 1954. But to his credit, Ted never flaunted his distinguished academic credentials.. He remained very much a common man despite his notable accomplishments. Ted was also a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, who followed his favorite team for most of his life. Ted was a Navy Veteran who faithfully served his country during the early years of the Cold War. He performed his assigned duties with competence while serving on the Dixie class destroyer, USS Piedmont. From 1955-1957, Ted served in the Pacific Theater like his brothers before, Willard and Carl Tucker, who both served in the Second World War. After his service in the United States Navy, Ted then enjoyed a longtime career working for the United States government in St. Louis. Ted lived the last years of his life near family members in Nevada, Missouri, Teri and Chris Posey, and Betty and Willard “Will” Tucker. Will affectionately referred to his youngest brother simply as “Teddy Jo”. An introverted but very likable and genuine person, Ted was known not to have harmed any person in his long life. For such reasons, Ted Tucker will be sorely missed by his loving family. Ted leaves behind his nephew, Phillip Tucker of Maryland, his niece, Teri Posey and husband, Chris of Nevada, Missouri, and sister-in-law, Betty Tucker also of Nevada. His many friends included LaVon Posey of Nevada, who kept him in supply of cookies, which he loved. Our special thanks to the staff of Medicalodge in Nevada and the Mount Vernon Veteran’s home who made his final days so special.
