Walter Leo Coomer, 85, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mr. Coomer, son of Kellis and Grace (Yancey) Coomer, was born October 8, 1925, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was an auto body repairman and auctioneer. He enjoyed collecting antiques, visiting with friends and dancing. Mr. Coomer was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3485 and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. On May 2, 1944, he was married to Catherine Alene Talley at Malvern, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1988. Surviving are three daughters; Leoda Murphy of Doniphan, and Mary Moncier and Teresa Coomer both of Poplar Bluff; one son, Gary Coomer of Doniphan; two sisters, Loretta Thauman and Lois Jean King, both of Fredricktown, Missouri; one brother, Dewey Coomer of Caruthersville, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one daughter, Carolyn Malone. Visitation will begin Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Doniphan City Cemetery with Brother Jim Baggett officiating.
