James William Monroe Keene, 84, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at John J. Perishing VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mr. Keene was born on January 24, 1926, in Ketchum, Oklahoma, to the late James Arthur and Ticie Elenard (Murray) Keene. Mr. Keene retired from the U.S. Forest Service. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Doniphan VFW post #3485. He enjoyed working with kids in area schools, making necklaces and Indian Culture and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses. On March 7, 1946, he married Daisy Mae Runion in Alton, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2009. On August 7, 2010, he marred Celia (Linz-Steinger) in Doniphan, Missouri, and she survives. Also surviving are four sons; Clyde Edward Keene of Bourbon, Missouri, Dale Keene of Springfield, Missouri, Paul Anthony Keene of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Mark Keene of Arnold, Missouri; two step-children, Jacob Chamberlain of Lapeer, Michigan, and Jerry Chamberlain of Lansing Michigan; one brother, Norman Clifford Keene of Alton, Illinois; twenty grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Daisy, his parents, one brother Pearl Lester Keene, and two sisters Ida Mae Keene and Minnie Morgan. Visitation will begin Friday, November 19, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2010, at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Stevens Cemetery, with full Military Honors.
