Howard L. Jackson, 75, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010, in Reyno, Arkansas. Mr. Jackson, lifelong resident of Ripley County, Missouri, was born September 7, 1935, in Success, Arkansas, to Albert S. and Velma (Sharpe) Jackson. He retired as owner/operator of Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Mr. Jackson was a former Ripley County Citizen of the Year, V.F.W. Citizen of the Year, past president of Doniphan Lions Club, former city councilman and was the Ripley County Coroner from 1964-2000. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Doniphan and served as trustee and treasurer. Mr. Jackson was an avid golfer and fisherman and loved being with his grandchildren. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-59. On June 12, 1964, he was married to Barbara Payne in Doniphan. She survives. Also surviving are two children; Mike Jackson and his wife, Lauren, and Jan Andrews and her husband, Jason, all of Doniphan; six grandchildren, Courtnee Jordan and her husband, Jason, of St. Louis, Missouri, Cory Jackson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Jalen Andrews, Jordan Andrews, Addison Jackson and MacKay Jackson, all of Doniphan; one sister, Betty Jones, of Jackson, Missouri; one brother, Al Jackson, of Doniphan; and many special cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert S. and Velma (Sharpe) Jackson. Visitation for Mr. Jackson will be held Thursday evening, September 30, 2010, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Friday morning, October 1, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan with Brother Wade Rogers and Dr. Michael Phelps officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Richard Chedister/Howard Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund
