Obituary of Sylvia Poe

Sylvia Marie Poe, 94, of Grandin, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at her residence.
Mrs. Poe, daughter of the late Samuel H. and Georgia Mae (Butts) Drysdale, was born March 13, 1916, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was a retired school teacher having taught forty years. Mrs. Poe began her teaching career in various one-room schools in Ripley County and taught the last several years at Hillview School in the Neelyville School District. She was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Poe enjoyed flowers and yardwork and she attended the Pilgrim's Rest Church.
On May 5, 1934, she was married to Voris Oval Poe in Oxly, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1994.
Surviving are one son, Bill Poe of Grandin, Missouri, and two daughters, JoAnn Harder and Tommie Mitchener, both of Doniphan; eleven grandchildren, Erich Harder, Elizabeth Casteel, Jacqueline Marie Harder, Tammie Hilderbrand, Craig Mitchener, Janice Killian, Mona Jean Boyd, Lisa Marie Wills, Ronald Wills, JimmyWills and Jason Poe; seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elsie Lotshaw of Tacoma, Washington, and Margaret Hommert of Wood River, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children, Donald Poe and Janet Russell; six siblings, Ruth Ackerman, Louise Anthony, Geneva Clark, Cecil Drysdale, Fred Drysdale, and Sam Drysdale; and one grandchild, Justin Poe.
Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Brother Donnie Emmons officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
