Paul L. Roberts, 87, lifelong resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan. Mr. Roberts, son of the late W. O. and Nettie (Hutson) Roberts, was born July 25, 1922, in Bennett, Missouri. He and his brother, E.E. "Red" Roberts, owned and operated a jewelry and sporting goods store in Doniphan for many years. After Red retired, Paul purchased Red's portion and ran the business until his retirement. Mr. Roberts was a charter member and first president of the Doniphan Lion's Club, a member of the V.F.W. Post #3485 and a member of the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. He earlier coached little league baseball. He enjoyed Current River, bird hunting, fishing and golfing. Mr. Roberts was a World War II veteran and served as a pilot in the Navy Air Corps stationed on the Massachussetts. On January 4, 1945, he was married to Anna Lee Magruder in Corning, Arkansas. She survives. Also surviving is one son, Greg Roberts, of Lexington, Tennessee. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Pauline Peterson and Ermine Kelly, and three brothers, E.E. "Red" Roberts, A.H. "Doc" Roberts and Lindal Roberts. Visitation for Mr. Roberts will be Thursday evening, May 20, 2010, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Friday morning, May 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan with Brother Wade Rogers and Brother Mike Phelps officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Doniphan.
