Larry was born July 13, 1945, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Dorothy Matlock and George Hayes. (George preceded him in death). Larry accepted Christ early in life and was baptized at Brown's Chapel A.M.E. in Poplar Bluff. Larry was educated at Wheatly High School and graduated from Poplar Bluff Senior High. He attended college in Chicago, Illinois. Larry was in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 60. Larry had a special love for his family. He enjoyed "going home" to visit his grandmother and family. Those many trips provided much excitement and happiness to him. Larry departed this life on Monday morning, May 10, 2010, at Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Larry's memorial will be cherished by his loving mother, Dorothy Matlock; two uncles, Robert Matlock (Marcia) of Toledo, Ohio, and Melvin Pritchett of St. Louis, Missouri; four aunts, Delores Hood of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Joan Turner of Detroit, Michigan, Rev. Peggy Thomas of St. Louis, Missouri and Patricia Maltbia of New Madrid, Missouri; and a host of loving cousins and good friends. Funeral Services will be visitation Monday May 17, 2010 at 1:00 PM with the funeral services starting at 2:00 PM all at the Christian Church in Poplar Bluff. Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
