Rosa Bell Carter, 89 year old resident of Doniphan, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Carter was born June 8, 1921 in Grandin, MO to the late Robert and Gertie Smith Cannon. Mrs. Cannon was a member of the Oak Grove Church of God and enjoyed painting quilt blocks, sewing, and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. On March 10, 1941, in Grandin, she was married to Joe Bill Carter. Mr. Carter preceded her in death March 4, 1998. Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Peggy Sue Carter; two sisters, Dora Hulvey and Maxine Turner; one brother, Robert Lee Cannon; one granddaughter, Tina Sue Carter, and one daughter-in-law, Donna Carter. Surviving are three children, Barbara Richmond and husband Art of Doniphan; Vergie Dickerson and husband K.D. of Branson West, MO; and Bob Carter and wife Debbie of Doniphan; three sisters, Phyllis Kelley, Mary Ford, and Imogene Keating all of St. Louis; three brothers, Charles Cannon and wife Phyllis of Doniphan; Cecil Cannon and wife Barbara of Doniphan; and Elmer Cannon of Fredericktown, MO; nine grandchildren Rose Richmond Neels and husband Larry, Ray Richmond and wife Sharon, Bobbie Lee Carter, Darren Long and wife Jessica, all of Doniphan, Scotty Crook of Springfield, MO, Jaime Bodenhamer and husband Shelby of Nixa, MO, Kim Slayton of Poplar Bluff, Kandis Dickerson of Branson West, Eric Long and wife Katie of Ellington and twelve great-grandchildren Michael Richmond, Crystal Neels-Griffin and husband Joe, Colten Carter, Kaylynn Long all of Doniphan, Gage Crook and fiancé Sabrina, Gabby Crook, Hannah Crook of Springfield, Breanne Slayton, Brook Slayton of Poplar Bluff, Blake Bodenhamer, Saxton Bodenhamer, Helen Ashley Bodenhamer of Nixa MO. Pallbearers: Ray Richmond, Michael Richmond, Scotty Crook, Joe Griffin, Bobbie Lee Carter, and Larry Neels. Visitation will be held on Friday December 31, 2010 beginning at 12:00 p.m. Funeral Services for Mrs. Carter will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Hubert Payne officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
