Obituary of Dorothy Hood

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Virginia Hood, 49, formerly of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, in New Madrid County. Miss Hood was born August 29, 1960, in Poplar Bluff to Samuel & Delores (Matlock) Hood. She worked in the construction industry. Affectionately called "Dot" by family members and friends, she loved singing, spending time with her family, baking, eating, wrestling with her son, Randall, and making ice slurpees with her blender. Her daughters often joked about receiving late night phone calls from their mother and having a hard time hearing her because of the loud blending noise in the background. But more than this she loved her grandchildren. Whenever you saw Dorothy, her shadow, Jaylum, was on her hip and instead of hanging her grandchildren's 5 x 7 pictures on the wall, she preferred to keep the photos in her car, on the visor, so they would always be with her. Surviving are her mother Delores (Matlock) Hood of Poplar Bluff; three daughters, Tyesha Hood & Diedra Hood both of Poplar Bluff & Caitlyn Hood of Howardsville, MO; one son, Randall Hood of Poplar Bluff; four sisters Dianne Young of New York, NY, Vickie Young (John Williams) of Kansas City, MO, Peggy Valeck (Kenny) of Wappapello and Carla Hood of Detroit, Michigan; five brothers William "Bill" Young, Reginald Young, & Samuel "Chico" Hood Jr all of Poplar Bluff, MO, Phillip James Hood (BeauLatasha) of Phoenix City, AL, and Michael Hood and Carlos Hood, both of Detroit, Michigan; six grandchildren Makala McCauley, Damian Hood, Dylan D. Hood, Jaylum Hood Daniels, Jameela Daniels, Ja'Meir Hood Daniels & life long friend Edward McKinney. Miss Hood was preceded in death by her father Samuel Hood & one sister Charlette Renee Young. Visitation will be 11 AM Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Mount Calvary Power House in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be noon Tuesday at Mount Calvary Power House with Pastor Ronnie Webb and Rev. Phillip Hood officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
