J. D. Putman, 84, of Oxly, Missouri, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mr. Putman was born September 16, 1925, to the late Henry and Ethel (Tatman) Putman. He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and lifelong auto mechanic. A member of the West Point Pentecostal Church, Mr. Putman enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was married to Pearlie Davidson on July 31, 1948, at Corning, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2004. Mr. Putman is survived by five daughters; Georgia Bennett of Vivian, Louisiana, Donna Arnold and Deborah Foulk, both of Doniphan, Missouri, Barbara Goodman of Planada, California, and Angie Grimes of Oxly; five sons, Vernon Putman of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, Kenny Putman of Bozeman, Montana, Henry Putman of Tucker, Missouri, and Harold Putman and James Putman, both of Oxly; one sister, Gladys Barker of Ohio; two brothers, Raymond Putman of Doniphan and Russell Putman of Oxly; thirty-three grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Connie Gale, five brothers, James Putman, Ralph Putman, Billy Putman, Richard Putman and Charles Putman, one sister, Dorothy Holcomb, and two granddaughters. Visitation for Mr. Putman will be Friday evening, January 15, 2010, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, January 16, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery.
