Carole Ann (Wiley) Kane, 69, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan. Mrs. Kane, daughter of the late Claude and Maggie (Price) Wiley, was born February 20, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught at all levels from Pre-K through 12th grade in Alaska, Colorado and Missouri. Mrs. Kane held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education and Master's Degrees in Physical Education and Recreation, Early Childhood and in Middle School. Her later years of teaching were at Gatewood, Couch and lastly Doniphan where she retired in 2005. She was selected Monte Vista, Colorado, teacher of the year in 1984-85 and was Colorado Honorable Mention Teacher of the Year in 1985-86. Carole and her husband, Ken, were chosen Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year in 2006. Mrs. Kane was very community-oriented. She started early with 4-H work as a student and was very involved with the Red Cross Disaster Action, American Heart Association and Home Economics Clubs. She was a Red Cross WSI Swimming Instructor in Colorado and Missouri. Mrs. Kane was a member of Doniphan First Church of God where she was a youth leader and Sunday School teacher for many years, a very active member of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life,,MSTA/CTA, Phi Delta Kappa, PEO, Ripley County Extension Council and Ripley County Retired Teachers Association . She served on many church and school committees. Mrs. Kane enjoyed working with children of all ages. She found time for reading, learning family history, crafts, fishing and being with people. She depended strongly on faith, family and friends and enthusiastically shared her faith with everyone either by her words or deeds. On December 17, 1960, she was married to Ken Kane at First Church of God in Doniphan. He survives. Also surviving are two sons; Kevin (and Judy) Kane and Kerry (and Dixie) Kane; and four grandchildren; Christopher Kane, Kyle Kane, Riley Kane and Trevor Kane, all of Phoenix, Arizona. Visitation for Mrs. Kane will be Saturday evening, January 2, 2010, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the First Church of God in Doniphan. The funeral service will start at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, January 3, 2010, at the First Church of God with burial to follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, c/o Edwards Funeral Home, 606 Walnut Street, Doniphan, Missouri 63935.
