Vernon Ernest Martin, 90 year old resident of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and former resident of Doniphan, died November 11, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Martin was born April 29, 1919, in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a former owner of the NAPA auto parts store in Doniphan, a member of the Masonic Lodge #369 where he was a former Most Worshipful Master, member of the Eastern Star, and Shriners. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3485 in Doniphan and a member of the Doniphan First Christian Church. Mr. Martin was a veteran having served in the US Army during World War II. On June 24, 1961, in Doniphan he was married to Cloice Martin. She preceded him in death on April 24, 1990. Then on November 28, 1992, in Doniphan, he was married to Jean Cox. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mary Jo (Martin) Hughes and husband Bill of Michigan, Verna Rae (Martin) Dudley and husband Bud of Pocahontas, Arkansas; one son, Curtis Martin and wife Sharon of Rogersville, Missouri; two step-daughters, Paula Stewart of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Suzi Abernathy and husband Gary of Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren; Mark Hughes, Kimberly Billingsley, Cindy Dean, Robin Canon, Troy Smith, Tiffany Martin, and Jennifer Arnott; three step-grandchildren, Mindy Conner, Chris Abernathy, and Lisa Abernathy; 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 step great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 16, 2009, in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan with the Rev. John Harwell officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening, November 15, 2009, from 5-8 P.M. with a Masonic Service to be held at 7:00 P.M.
