Robert Clayton "Bob" Gunter, 82, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Friday morning, August 28, 2009, at Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Mr. Gunter, son of the late Herbert and Muriel (Joplin) Gunter, was born May 21, 1927, in Ripley County, Missouri. He was a mechanic and had owned Gunter's Station and Garage in Grandin, Missouri, for 28 years. Mr. Gunter enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and he especially loved his grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. On May 14, 1949, he was married to Doris Howell in Grandin. She survives. Also surviving are two children, Carolyn (Mike) Cates of Dittmer, Missouri, and Jerry (Vicky) Gunter of Ellsinore, Missouri; one brother, Cecil Gunter of Poplar Bluff; one step-brother, Don Stout of Michigan; one step-sister, Betty Pope of Arizona; three grandchildren, Clay Cates of Buffalo, New York, Brad Cates of Imperial, Missouri, and Clint Gunter of Ellsinore; and five great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Hayley, Robyn, Cody and Mikey. Besides his parents, Mr. Gunter was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Officer Amanda Cates, and his step-father, Willard Stout. Visitation will be Sunday evening, August 30, 2009, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will begin Monday afternoon, August 31, 2009, at 1:00 p.m.at the funeral home chapel with Brother William McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the Joplin-New Hope Cemetery.
