James Herbert Rainey, 83, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Friday August 14, 2009, at his farm in Doniphan. Mr. Rainey was born October 12, 1925, in Hornbeak, Tennessee, to the late Herbert and Opal (McTurner) Rainey. Mr. Rainey retired to Doniphan from the Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo Indiana. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Austin Lodge #128 in Tipton Indiana, a member of the Shiners Club of Indianapolis, Indiana, and past Post Commander of American Legion Post #483 in Windfall, Indiana., where he was a member for 54 years. Mr. Rainey served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On December 1, 1973, he married Linda Luster in Windfall, Indiana, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons; Jack Rainey of Kokomo, Indiana, and James A. Rainey of Corning Arkansas; four daughters, Judy Porter and Sally Barney, both of Ft. Myers, Florida, Ginger Parish of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Vickie Keel of Doniphan; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Alpay of Greentown, Indiana, and Marie Beckner of Windfall, Indiana; and one brother, Paul Rainey of California. Mr. Rainey was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ralph Rainey, and two sisters, Doris Ward and Sue Fraizer. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday August 19, 2009, at the funeral home chapel with Brother Hubert Payne officiating. Burial will be in Amity Cemetery.
