Obituary of Marvine Ponder

Marvine G. Ponder, 94, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday morning, June 23, 2009, at the Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan. Mrs. Ponder, daughter of the late Alfred and Iva (McCauley) Ray was born July 11, 1914, in Ripley County, Missouri. She was retired as a stenographer with an insurance company and had worked part-time with the Harper Woods Recreational Department in Harper Woods, Michigan. Mrs. Ponder was a member of the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. She was married to Victor Ponder on March 20, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1952. Mrs. Ponder is survived by one daughter, Barbara Schreck, of Milan, Michigan; two grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, especially one special niece, Carol Burke of Doniphan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Marjorie Napier and Mildred Rickaby, and two brothers, Francis Ray and Arnim Ray. Visitation for Mrs. Ponder will be Friday morning, June 26, 2009, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Amity Cemetery with Reverend Hubert Payne officiating.
