Murrel Netherland, 93, lifelong resident of Calm, Missouri, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan, Missouri. Mrs. Netherland, daughter of the late Renzy and Nellie (Danahy) Christian, was born May 11, 1915, in Calm. She formerly worked at Vitronic, Inc. in Doniphan and was a housewife. Mrs. Netherland was a member of the Ladies' Community Club of Calm and the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking and gardening. On October 6, 1934, she was married to Rufe Thomas Netherland in Kennett, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1983. Mrs. Netherland is survived by one son, Bob Netherland and his wife, Leslie, of Doniphan; one daughter, Kay Hartsock and her husband, Richard, of Gatewood, Missouri; four grandchildren, Pam Fagan Smith and her husband, Ed, Christian Marie Netherland, Jacob Stewart Netherland and Hannah Rose Netherland; one step-grandson, Ronnie Hartsock; three great-grandchildren, James Smith, John Smith and Maggie Smith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters, Waynoma Buck, Sherril Tinnin, Hannah Lemons and Mary Helen Brooks, and one brother, Buster Christian. Visitation will be Monday evening, April 6, 2009, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Kent Wilfong officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery.
