Loyd J. Gettings, 79, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Mr. Gettings, son of the late Elmer James and Birdie (Parsley) Gettings, was born July 25, 1929, in Ripley County, Missouri. He was retired as an equipment driver for General Motors, where he had worked for 30 years. Mr. Gettings was a member of the United Auto Workers Union.
On May 18, 1957, he was married to Barbara V. McGonigal in Ponder, Missouri. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons; Tom Gettings and David Gettings, both of Doniphan; one sister, Bertha Bennett of Doniphan; one brother, Charles Gettings of Doniphan; six grandsons, Matthew Gettings, John Gettings, Mark Gettings, Eric Gettings, Seth Gettings and Tristan Gettings; one great grandson, Landon Gettings; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Fred Gettings, one brother, Jerry Gettings, one sister, Esther Hursh, and one half-brother, Jack Bruce.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
