Fay Edwards Green, 100, of Ponder, Missouri, died July 27, 2015, at Westwood Hills Healthcare in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Fay was born on January 5, 1915, in Ponder, Missouri, to Ben and Ona (Tyson) Edwards. Upon graduation from Doniphan High School, she began her teaching career at Union School, a one-room school in rural Ripley County. Fay then taught at Ponder, also a rural one-room school for some time
On February 1, 1936, she was married to Clyde Wesley "Tot" Green at Alton, Missouri, and they owned and operated the Ponder Country Store for several years. Fay later went to work at Ripley County R-III School at Gatewood as secretary and remained there until her retirement.
An important part of Fay's life was the Ponder Church of Christ. She was a primary Sunday School class teacher for over 60 years. Fay was a charter member of the Ponder Boosters FCE Club and attended many local, district and county meetings. She also served her community as an election judge for many years in the Ponder and Gatewood districts. Fay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Surviving are two sons: Larry Green and wife, Dorothy and Wally Green and wife, Linda, both of Doniphan; and one daughter, Danna Turpin and husband, Winston of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Troy Green and wife, Jera of Rockford, Illinois, Stacy Green and wife, Angela of Caledonia, Illinois, Meagan Mullins and husband, Matt of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Chase Turpin and wife, Melissa of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Karla Miller and husband, Bob of Fenton, Missouri; 9 great-grandchildren, Austin Green, Abbey Green, Ryland Green, Sam Green, Chance Green, Connor Green, Ryleigh Mullins, Ashley Penovich and husband, B.J., and Katie Miller; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Andrea Penovich.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ona (Tyson) Edwards, husband, Clyde Wesley "Tot" Green, one sister, Joy Casteel, and one son, Ronny Green and his wife, Karen.
Visitation will take place Friday evening, July 31, 2015, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Saturday morning, August 1, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Steve Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Ponder Cemetery.
Fay was in charge of the upkeep of the Ponder Cemetery for many years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Ponder Cemetery Fund and mailed to:
