Vergie Dunkin

Vergie Murray Dunkin, age 88 and a native of Doniphan Missouri, passed away on February 1, 2009, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She was born on July 3, 1920, the daughter of the late Audie and Ona (Allen) Murray of Doniphan. She graduated from Metcalf, Illinois, High School in 1938 and joined the Women's Army Corp at the outbreak of WWII. She met and married Royal Dunkin of Nevada, Iowa, on June 10, 1945, while they were still in the military service and both were honorably discharged at the end of the war. She has 2 sons, Murray and RD, and one daughter, Carole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal Dunkin, son, RD Dunkin, brothers, Clarence Murray and Halterman Murray and sisters Mary Titus and Laura Miller. She is survived by her sister, Anna Mae Thiel, of Ames, Iowa, son Murray Dunkin, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, daughter Carole Pote of Gainesville, Georgia, and grandson Brady Pote, of Gainesville, Georgia.

Visitation for Mrs. Dunkin will be Sunday evening, February 8, 2008, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be held Monday morning, February 9, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Concluding graveside services will be held at the Doniphan City Cemetery.

Flowers will be greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
