Walter John Scott passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at his home in Oregon County, Missouri. Walter was born November 14, 1939, in Franklin, New Jersey, at home. He grew up on a dairy farm in Stillwater, New Jersey. Walter worked in auto mechanics all of his life. He joined the United States Air Force in 1959, where he worked in plane mechanics until 1965. He started racing with Jerry Stein in 1969 and set 13 national records. Walter married Betty Jean Sanders in 1986 and they had 3 children together. They moved to a farm in the Doniphan, Missouri, area in 1991 and he started S & T Automotive with his brother-in-law, George Turnbull. Walter started attending West Point Church in March of 2004 where he was baptized in Jesus' name. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Cummigust Victor and Mildred Joy (Jennings) Scott, and his older brother, Victor Lee Scott. He is survived by one sister, Doris Nehrkron of Slate Hill, New York; his 3 children, Joshua John Scott, Daniel Allen Scott and Faline Alicia (Scott) Wells; one son-in-law, Daniel Douglas Wells; and two grandsons, Connor Daniel Wells and John Kaiden Wells. Visitation will begin Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at noon at the West Point United Pentecostal Church in rural Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Brother Chuck Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery.
