Shelby Jean Bennett, 71, life-time resident of Doniphan, Missouri, departed this life Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Ms. Bennett, daughter of Ernest Carl and Izel Estelle (Pace) Mathis, was born March 6, 1943, in Briar, Missouri. She had been employed in domestic work and was a long-time member of the West Point United Pentecostal Church. Shelby liked working in her flower beds, being with her children and grandchildren, going back roading and just enoying life with everyone she ever knew. She loved being supervisor of all her family! Surviving are three daughters: Cindy Meadors of Gatewood, Missouri, Tammy Harris and Tina March, both of Doniphan; her friend of 18 years, Denver Howell; one sister, Lorene Wheeler of Elizabethtown, Illinois; one brother, Lawrence Peck Mathis of Doniphan; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Arvada McKnight and one brother, James Tunie Mathis. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, July 8, 2014, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the West Point United Pentecostal Church near Doniphan. The funeral service will take place Wednesday morning, July 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. also at West Point with Brother Charles Carr officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
