William Houston Smith, 94, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Mr. Smith, son of William R. and Mary Ida (Cowler) Smith, was born March 1, 1919, in Mengelwood, Tennessee. He loved the Chicago Cubs and was very interested in agriculture. Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II.
Surviving are two children: Ronnie Smith of Doniphan and Denise (and William) Thrasher of Lake Village, Indiana; two grandchildren, Lynette Thrasher of Lake Village, Indiana, and Christopher (and Kelly) Thrasher of Indianapolis, Indiana; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Matthew Smith, two brothers, Cletus Smith and Decoy (Dink) Smith, and four sisters, Maggie Little, Zeda Crowley, Orianna Chelap and Ola Twilla.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
