Joe Albert Tarno, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Monday, December 30, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mr. Tarno, son of Odis and Rachel (Jackson) Tarno, was born January 22, 1930, in Kennett, Missouri. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service. Mr. Tarno was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the special services in his unit and played in the Army Band, entertaining the USO, movie stars and officers. Mr. Tarno also played for and entertained Army officers throughout Korea. He enjoyed playing music. On January 10, 1953, he was married to Joy House in Piggott, Arkansas, and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Brenda Baker, of Ellsinore, Missouri; two sons, David Tarno of Cape Girardeau and Ron Tarno of Henderson, Arkansas; one half-sister, June Tarno Bohatec of Hopewell, Virginia; one half-brother, Keith Kirby of Kennett;10 grandchildren, Chris, Michael, Crystal, Marcy, Ashley, Megan, Brett, Beau, Tiffany and Kristen; 2 step-grandchildren, Wendy and Tasha; and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday, January 4, 2014, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southwest Missouri Chapter, Glen Isle Center, 1500 S. Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65804-1436
