Obituary of Dennis "Eli" Swindle

Dennis "Eli" Swindle, 60, life-long resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Southeast Health Center of Ripley County. Mr. Swindle, son of Henry Eli "Fuzz" and Birdie Mae (Little) Swindle, was born August 12, 1953, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. At the time of his retirement, he was one of only five systems auditors in the nation in telecommunications. Mr. Swindle was known far and wide for his kraut-making and was always gifting someone with a delicious jar. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed gardening, making jerky and being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Swindle was also a passionate reader of all subjects. He is survived by two daughters, Kacie (Brant) Gunther of Commerce, Missouri, and Kellie (Derek) Thompson of Springfield, Missouri; his father, "Fuzz" Swindle of Doniphan; one sister, Debbie Littles of Doniphan; one brother, David (Angie) Swindle of Doniphan; two grandchildren, Dade Keel Thompson and Lewis "Woody" Eli Gunther; and his former wife, Tresa Keel Swindle. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and close friends. Mr. Swindle was preceded in death by his mother, Birdie Mae Swindle. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, December 19, 2013, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow on Friday morning, December 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ben Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cardinal-Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
