Carl Mac Holmes, Sr., 83, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Holmes, son of Gradin and Thelma (McElwrath) Holmes, was born January 17, 1930, in Holcomb, Missouri. He had been an electrician, primarily in electrical wiring. Mr. Holmes loved building model airplanes, scooters and motorcycles, CB radios and anything mechanical. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with people and telling stories. Mr. Holmes was a member of the Doniphan Church of Christ, V.F.W. Post #3485 and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He also worked with the military as a civilian with B-52s and Phantom Jets. He was married to Anna Stohr in 1952 and she preceded him in death. Surviving are five children: Matilda Turner of Indiana, Darlene L. Stump and Carl Mac Holmes, Jr., both of Collierville, Tennessee, Thelma L. Nance of Naylor, Missouri, and Patricia A. Thompson of Doniphan; two brothers, Jackie Gordon Holmes and Charles James Holmes, both of West Memphis, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Patricia Ann Holmes. Visitation will be Saturday evening, August 3, 2013, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. A funeral/graveside service will take place Sunday afternoon, August 4, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Senath Cemetery in Senath, Missouri, with Brother Steve Sanders officiating.
