Wendell Emmitt Griffin, 71, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Mr. Griffin, son of Theodore and Margaret (Rush) Griffin, was born August 4, 1941, in Doniphan. At a young age, his parents moved his family to Phoenix, Arizona. He was a welder/inspector for Southwest Gas and, upon retirement in 1998, he moved back home to Doniphan. Mr. Griffin enjoyed being with his dog, "River", and hanging out with his best friend, Felicia. He loved music, especially playing his guitar. Mr. Griffin was a member of New Hope Church and had served four years with the U. S. Coast Guard. He was married to Nancy Porter on April 22, 1967, in Winter Haven, California. She survives. Also surviving are three children: Kathryn (and Mike) Balian of Phoenix, Arizona, Craig (and Chrystal) Newby of Bann, Germany, and Jeri (and John) Hobbs of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Jerry Rush Griffin of Phoenix, Arizona; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Scott, Natalie, Amanda, Janell, Brad and John. Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Margaret Griffin, one son, Jeff Newby, one sister, Anna Hunt and one infant brother, Billy Jerrel Griffin. He will be missed by many family members and friends. Visitation will take place Sunday evening, January 27, 2013, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral will be held Monday morning, January 28, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Truman Chatman officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
