Obituary of Barbara Cannon

Barbara Cannon, 80-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life December 25, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Mars Hill, NC. She was born January 17, 1943, in Oxly, MO.

Barbara had worked in the banking and finance industry seeing many changes and transitions as Mercantile became US Bank. She had also been employed at Southern Bank. Barbara’s warm and friendly personality made her a perfect match for these positions. She cherished her family, friends, and Oak Grove Church family and enjoyed being with them working on any projects, especially quilting. Quilting was a favorite hobby that she also enjoyed doing at home. Barbara liked tending to her pink rose flower garden which complemented her immaculate lawn. Her dog, a Morkie named Mini, became family. Barbara was a strong person and survived cancer living a fulfilled life for five years after her diagnosis.

On September 10, 1960, Barbara married Cecil Cannon in Wolcott, KS. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2013.  Barbara was also preceded by her grandparents, Richard and Alta Mae Medling, and her mother, Bessie Medling Russell.

Surviving is her daughter, Carol (David) Jones of Mars Hill, NC, and a granddaughter, Marina Jones.

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 29, 2023, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Brother Danny Miller will be officiating, and burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Oak Grove Building Fund.
