Douglas Eugene Baker, 75-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life on Saturday, June 24, 2023. He was born May 19, 1948, in Doniphan, to the late Herbert and Betty Sue (Hensley) Baker.

 

Doug had worked at Inman Feed and as a driver for Ripley County Transit, where he won the hearts of those he chauffeured with his kindness and helpfulness. He loved cars, mechanics, dirt tracks, and drag racing. As a member of New Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Doug was a song leader and Sunday School teacher setting an example of a Christian life for his family. Doug had served in the United States Army.

 

On February 13, 1971, Doug married Linda Fern Murdock in Gatewood, MO. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2005.

 

Surviving are his children, Jared (Elizabeth) Baker of Gatewood and Tara (Jason) Sprouse of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, Ava Wood of Gatewood; and a special friend, Evelyn Montgomery. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Alex (Hannah) Baker, J-Lynn (Chris) Nelson, K-Lynn Baker (Joshua), and Victoria Baker-Sprouse, and great-grandchildren, Madison, Evander, Titus, Kingston, Pebbles, and Paisley.

 

Visitation will be in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 29, 2023, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. The family will have a private burial.
