Nanny "Bea" Powers Nanny "Bea" Powers, 69, of Grandin, Missouri, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Powers was born May 12, 1937, at Henning, Tennessee. She was a housewife who enjoyed music and working outdoors. Mrs. Powers was a member of the Grandin Methodist Church. Mrs. Powers was the first female police officer in the area starting in the mid-1970's. She was also a former city marshal of Grandin and had held the office of Carter County Commissioner as a deputy. She had formerly been married to Alvis Powers. Mrs. Powers is survived by two sons; Alvis Powers, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri, and Joseph Powers of Grandin, Missouri; one daughter, Angela Barker of Broseley, Missouri; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; four sisters; Frances Faulkner of Osceola, Arkansas, Mildred Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, Violet Kerner of Illinois and Patricia Hunter of Dover, Arkansas; six brothers; Louis Yon of Illinois, Henry Yon, Donnie Yon and Roger Yon of Cahokia, Illinois, Charles Yon and Pleas Yon of Granite City, Illinois. Preceding her in death were one son, Perry Powers; one daughter, Fredia Cooley; her parents, Vernon Yon and Rosie Jackson Yon; and one sister, Laverne Nicholson. Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2007, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Friday, March 23, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Grandin Cemetery.
